Internship at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center

Since early January I have been at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center working as the wood shop / 3D intern. Anderson Ranch is located in Snowmass Village, Colorado; a small mountain town close to Aspen that is generally a resort / ski community. It is a non-profit arts center that offers summer workshops, residencies, and internships in woodworking, sculpture, ceramics, painting, printmaking, photography, and digital medias. It is an incredible and magical place for artists to grow and explore. The Ranch is staffed with this industry's leading artists, teachers, and mentors; and is equipped with top-of-the-line equipment and facilities.     www.AndersonRanch.org

As an intern, my job is to assist the students and residents with their work, as well as to maintain the tools and equipment in the shop. The wood shop is run by Jason Schneider, who holds an MFA in furniture design from San Diego State University. Jason has an unbelievable knowledge of wood, furniture making, and design, and is an exceptional teacher. It is a great honor to be here learning from him.        The Ranch is frequented by remarkable visiting artists, the most recent of which was Takashi Nakazato, a thirteenth-generation Karatsu potter from Japan. It was incredible to watch him work, and we were graced by a demonstration of the artist at work.

Here are a few of those photos, as well as a video of the demonstration:
